How long is the average doctoral program with a "non-teachers' pre-requisites?
I'm looking for a program PhD in nutrition. My goal is to work in research. I worked in health care as a therapist and certified professional liscenced with certification for hands and I am looking for a career change. My undergraduate degree is in occupational therapy from a medical school state.
Well, it depends on many different variables. If you have your stuff together, get a great supervisor, obtain a proposal and during your first 2 years and get a good set of data in a reasonable time, then 4 years is feasible, or even less. However, My experience is 5-6 years. is typical. My advice is to do your homework – research at the faculty of various departments, find someone who makes research into something interesting for you and more importantly, someone who is funded. My thesis is nutrition and it took me 8 years! but it was a horror story.
